With recent advances in generative artificial intelligence (GenAI), educational apps are beginning to incorporate GenAI elements into their design. In fact, entire app stores dedicated to GenAI apps are opening up (e.g.,
the GPT Store). Yet, it is unclear how parents and educators feel about the use of GenAI in apps.
This ongoing research project investigates whether parents and educators prefer apps that incorporate generative AI in their app design, or apps that do not. Furthermore, it aims to explore whether parents and educators have a preference for how generative AI is used within an app. For example, do parents and educators prefer an app that uses generative AI to provide real-time feedback, or to generate learning content?
