Joann Guyoncour

Research Intern

I am a master’s student in the research-focused master’s in Psychology at KU Leuven (Belgium), and I am currently involved in the TCL Lab as an intern.

After obtaining my bachelor’s degree in Cognitive Science from McGill University in 2025, I became particularly interested in cognitive development, learning sciences, and educational technologies. Within these areas, I am especially interested in numerical cognition and the cognitive processes underlying mathematical thinking. My current research uses EEG to investigate how numbers are represented in the brain, particularly how the symbolic, culturally acquired number system is integrated with our innate sense of numerical quantities.

In the TCL lab, I am involved in projects evaluating educational products developed by Montreal-based companies (Alloprof and Tokidos). We use learning analytics to better understand learners’ experiences and inform guidelines for improving the educational products.
