TLC Lab Publishes Paper on Teacher Support for Game-Based Learning
We are excited to announce the publication of a new article, Guiding Teachers’ Game-Based Learning: How User Experience of a Digital Curriculum Guide Impacts Teachers’ Self-Efficacy and Acceptance of Educational Games, by Robin, Tania, Daniel, Chu, and Dr. Dubé from the Technology, Learning, & Cognition (TLC) Lab.

Published in Teaching and Teacher Education, the study investigates how our theory-driven digital curriculum guide for the educational game Discovery Tour Ancient Egypt enhances teachers’ confidence and acceptance of game-based learning. By grounding the guide in established frameworks like the Technology Acceptance Model (TAM) and Technological Pedagogical Content Knowledge (TPACK), the research highlights the importance of well-designed resources in overcoming barriers to adopting educational games in classrooms.
The findings emphasize the role of positive user experiences in increasing teachers’ digital self-efficacy, leading to greater acceptance of game-based learning tools regardless of prior knowledge or experience with games. The curriculum guide, developed in collaboration with Ubisoft, provides innovative features like customized lesson planning and detailed gameplay mapping, aligning directly with educational outcomes. This research not only reinforces the value of structured resources in supporting educators but also paves the way for broader integration of digital games in teaching.
