Nandini Interviewed by The Tribune at Mcgill University

January 16, 2026

We are pleased to share that Nandini Asavari Bharadwaj was interviewed by The Tribune, a student-run newspaper at McGill University, on the effects of Generative AI (Gen AI) use on cognitive skills. You can read the interview here

In the interview Nandini highlighted:
  • Any type of  external tool from pens to computers to now Gen AI can impact how people think and perform cognitively
  • While more research is needed to understand longterm effects of use, current research shows that generative AI use can have various and varied impacts on human cognition
  •  AI literacy is needed to support students as they use an experiment with Gen AI tools so that they understand how these systems work and reflect on their own skill development
The interview highlights the need for scientific research to guide our understanding of effects of AI use on cognition and learning. Further, it raises a fundamental question of the purpose of education–student learning and development and not a focus on outcomes or assignments.
