Are you interested in how people learn, how AI and technology are changing education, or how data can help us understand what works?
Applications are now open for Fall 2027 admission to McGill University’s M.Ed. in Educational Psychology – Learning Sciences.
The M.Ed. in Learning Sciences is designed for students who want to understand learning and use that knowledge to address real challenges in education. Whether your background is in psychology, education, cognitive science, technology, behavioural science, or a related field, the program provides an opportunity to build expertise at the intersection of learning, research, technology, and data.
Students can choose between two specializations depending on the questions they want to explore and the skills they want to develop.
Science of Learning & Teaching: Understand how people learn
Why do some learning experiences work better than others? How do cognition and motivation shape learning? How should we design educational technologies? What happens to learning when students use AI?
The Science of Learning & Teaching specialization lets you explore questions like these through the science of learning. You will examine how research on cognition, motivation, instruction, and technology can be used to understand and improve learning experiences.
This pathway may be a good fit if you are interested in teaching and learning, educational technology, instructional or learning design, educational consulting, or further study of learning and cognition.
Applied Methods & Data Science: Turn educational questions into evidence
How do we know whether a new educational technology actually works? How can we use data to understand how people learn? How do organizations determine whether a program or intervention is effective?
The Applied Methods & Data Science specialization develops the research and analytical skills needed to answer these questions. You will build expertise in research methods, data analysis, measurement, learning analytics, and evaluation—and learn how to use evidence to address real educational problems.
This pathway may be particularly relevant if you are interested in EdTech, industry, educational research, learning analytics, program evaluation, data-informed decision making, or further graduate study.
Join a community studying the future of learning
As a Learning Sciences student at McGill, you will be part of a community investigating some of the most important questions facing education today.
Students can also become involved in research through groups such as the Teaching, Learning & Cognition (TLC) Lab, where our work examines educational technology, AI in education, digital games and apps, and the cognitive and behavioural processes involved in learning.
If you want to understand how people learn—and develop the knowledge and skills to help improve how we teach, design, evaluate, and use educational technologies—the M.Ed. in Learning Sciences could be your next step.
Applications are open for Fall 2027.
